Welcome New Member - New Mexico Film Location Old Magnolia Garage

We'd like to welcome New Mexico Film Location The Old Magnolia Garage to crewnewmexico.com! The Old Magnolia Garage is an historic film location for the New Mexico Film Industry. Its located on the corner of 4th and Pacific in Albuquerque, and is a convenient location in many ways! It is a working garage (but they'll work with your schedule for shoots), it has three bay doors and work areas, open work spaces, high ceilings, and has great proximity to all of ABQ, including a lot of nearby production parking. There is a large, open yard and alleyway behind the building that can be used for production vehicles, or for part of a shoot. The adjoining corners also have the same semi-industrial look, and one of them was even a former gas station, making this an excellent 1-stop shooting location. The owners of the garage restore vintage VW buses, so be sure to talk with them if old VWs are to be part of your shoot. We're happy to have added them to our New Mexico Locations Database!

Welcome New Member - Picture Car 1965 Landrover!

Land Rover Picture Car! A great New Mexico Film Industry picture car (or for locally shot commercials, too).

As former owners of a classic-era Land Rover, we're thrilled to welcome Lou Straney and his 1965 s2 Land Rover picture car to crewnewmexico.com. Located near Santa Fe this Land Rover has been meticulously restored and has already been featured in photo shoots and commercials. The owner can furnish western and safari props and staging, and period correct license plates from Ohio, New Mexico, Cuba and various parts of Africa. Says Lou, "From Born Free to Romancing the Stone and Tomb Raider, Land Rovers have played iconic film roles. Orvis and other major retail catalogue companies have also featured vintage Land Rovers. From high fashion to machetes and the Hamptons to Mombasa, this car is never out of its element. There is no better unique setting for Ralph Lauren, Gorsuch, Peruvian Connection, Sundance, J Crew or Anthropologie catalogs." And we have to agree. We've seen this historic picture car up close and personal, and recommend that anyone involved in picture cars in New Mexico should give Lou a call!

The New Visions/New Mexico Contract Award!

This was recently announced by the New Mexico Film Office, and we wanted to help spread the word: For the third year in a row, the State of New Mexico is sponsoring the New Visions New Mexico Contract Awards, designed to support and promote the work of New Mexico-based directors, producers and writers. They grant a total of $160,000 in contracts, up to $20,000 per project. The money must go toward the creation of narrative films, documentaries, animated and experimental projects. Panavision is providing two prizes, each an in-kind donation toward the rental of motion picture camera equipment (HD, 16mm or 35mm) with a rental value of $10k. You may apply for funds toward the completion of existing projects, or the launching of new ones (one project per filmmaker). An important aspect of your proposal is your plan and ability to give back to the state by training others in the industry – so please be creative, and specific, with your ideas.

For more information, applications, and full details visit the New Mexico Film Office website here.

And a note from crewnewmexico.com -- If you're a recipient of an award, contact us- we may be interested in helping sponsor your project!
