On Tuesday, Santa Fe county gave the ok for the development of Santa Fe Film Studios, which would bring a full-scale studio environment to Santa Fe, with up to 10 soundstages, post-production facilities, executive offices, and up to 500,000 sq ft of studio space when fully complete. It would be located south of town, on Highway 14, across from the prison. This is excellent news for the industry in Santa Fe, and for residents and businesses for Santa Fe and surrounding areas, and the NM film industry in general. Solid film infrastructure is one of the critical components of why productions would choose New Mexico, in addition to the incentives and crew base. It would be an excellent addition to the local economy, locking in hopefully stable and high-paying jobs to what is typically a service-economy/tourism oriented economy in Santa Fe.
The owners of the Studio say that it will be the first "green" studio in the world, and we're curious to learn more about that.
We'll keep you posted!
